Zimbabwean Ambassador commends Rwanda for strengthening English language education

The Ambassador of Zimbabwe to Rwanda, Professor Charity Manyeruke, has praised the strong partnership between her country and Rwanda in promoting the English language.

She made these remarks during her visit to TTC Rubengera in Karongi District, where teachers from Zimbabwe are currently supporting Rwanda’s efforts to enhance English language teaching.

In her address, Ambassador Manyeruke expressed her appreciation for the warm welcome she received in Karongi, saying:

“I am delighted by the hospitality extended to us in this beautiful district of Karongi, blessed with a scenic lake, mountains, excellent schools, and a strong commitment to environmental protection.”

She also thanked President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe for establishing the cooperation between the two nations in 2019, emphasizing that this partnership continues to be built on unity, love, and collaboration.

“We are here because of the agreements our two countries share. Our teachers are contributing to Rwanda’s education by supporting English language teaching in secondary schools, universities, and other institutions. We are also exchanging knowledge in areas such as solar energy, agriculture, and business,” she added.

Addressing students, Ambassador Manyeruke encouraged them to stay focused and determined to improve their lives:

“When I was your age, I used to walk to school with an umbrella under the rain, but I never gave up because I wanted to change my life. You too should use your talents and opportunities to transform your future,” she said.

Karongi District Mayor, Mr. Muzungu Gerald, expressed gratitude to Zimbabwe for deploying teachers to Rwanda to strengthen English language education. He stated:

“Rwanda and Zimbabwe have bilateral cooperation in various sectors, particularly in education, which aligns with our national goal of building a skilled and knowledgeable Rwandan citizen. We thank the Ministry of Education for bringing these teachers to TTC Rubengera to help our educators improve their English teaching skills.”

The head of TTC Rubengera, Mr. Niyomugabo Dominique, welcomed the ambassador’s visit and underlined the impact of the Zimbabwean teachers.

“Their presence has significantly improved students’ English proficiency, since the teachers use only English in class, which enhances language mastery and overall learning quality. We have already seen great results through different school activities and discussions conducted entirely in English,” he said.

Currently, TTC Rubengera hosts seven teachers from Zimbabwe who are supporting the school in teaching English and strengthening the quality of education.
