Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, after meeting leaders of the AFC/M23 coalition in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), immediately headed to Rwanda, where he was received by Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe.
Kenyatta’s visit to Rwanda comes as efforts to find a peaceful solution to the conflict in eastern DRC continue, with the African Union playing a key role in facilitating dialogue among the parties.

The former Kenyan president is a member of the African Union Panel of Facilitators supporting the peace process in eastern DRC.

During his visit, Kenyatta held discussions with Nduhungirehe and other senior Rwandan officials on the work of the panel and ongoing efforts to advance the African Union-led peace process.

He was accompanied by senior officials, including Maj Gen (Rtd) Jack Nziza, Deputy Chairperson of the Rwanda Demobilisation and Reintegration Commission (RDRC), and Brig Gen Patrick Karuretwa, Rwanda Defence Force spokesperson and Director General for International Military Cooperation.

His meeting with AFC/M23 leaders in Goma followed by his immediate trip to Rwanda places his engagements within ongoing efforts to promote dialogue and seek a lasting peaceful solution to the conflict in eastern DRC.
