In a strong action aimed at safeguarding the lives and health of citizens, the Rwanda Food and Drugs Authority (Rwanda FDA) has suspended the operations of Ingufu Gin Ltd and several other alcoholic beverage manufacturers following inspections that revealed non-compliance with regulatory requirements.
The decision, announced on 2 August 2026, is part of Rwanda’s continued efforts to strengthen control over alcoholic beverages, ensure product safety, and protect consumers from potentially harmful products on the market.
Rwanda FDA said the measures were taken after conducting assessments of alcohol producers, distributors, and retailers to verify compliance with national standards and regulations. The affected companies had their production activities suspended, while their operating permits were revoked.
The Authority ordered the immediate withdrawal of products manufactured by the affected companies and directed producers to begin recall processes. Distributors and retailers were instructed to stop selling the listed products and return remaining stocks to suppliers or manufacturers.
Ingufu Gin Ltd, one of the companies affected, produces alcoholic beverages including Red Waragi, Rabiant Gin, Ngufu Gin, King’s Vodka, Royal Castle Gin, Medal Gin, G&S Rum, New House Potable Spirit, Club Potable Spirit, and Hometown Potable Spirit.
Another affected company, NBG Ltd, produced brands such as United Flavored Gin, Bombastic Coconut Flavored Gin, Ingwe Flavored Gin, Amerikan Flavored Gin, Maguma Gin, and Fimbo Blended Banana Brandy.
Other companies whose operations were suspended include SKY Drop Industries Ltd, Africana Buffalo Ltd, NOPA Company Ltd, Roots Investment Group Ltd, Rugali Agro-processing Company, and Zhonglu Industrial Liability Company Ltd.
Rwanda FDA has urged consumers to immediately stop using products listed in the recall notice and called upon manufacturers, distributors, and traders to comply fully with the directives. The Authority warned that failure to follow the instructions could lead to additional legal measures.
The regulator confirmed that inspections across the alcoholic beverage sector are still ongoing, with further actions expected against companies found violating safety requirements.
The crackdown follows Rwanda FDA’s recent decision to suspend all permits for importing ethanol (neutral spirit) and halt the processing of new import applications, as part of broader efforts to improve oversight of alcohol production and prevent risks to public health.
Through these measures, Rwanda continues to prioritize consumer protection, ensuring that only safe, quality-assured products are available on the market and reinforcing its commitment to protecting the lives of its people.
