DRC fighter jet has violated Rwandan airspace

The Government of Rwanda condemns the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s provocation.

This follows the violation of Rwandan airspace by an RDC fighter jet.

Rwanda’s government stated:

“A Sukhoi-25 fighter jet from the Democratic Republic of Congo violated Rwandan airspace at 11h20 this morning and briefly touched down at Rubavu Airport in Western Province. No military action was taken by Rwanda in response, and the jet returned to DRC. Rwandan authorities have protested this provocation to the DRC Government, who acknowledged the incident.”

The Congolese government accuses Rwanda of supporting the M23 rebels in the east of the country – allegations Kigali has long dismissed.

Last week, Alain Mukuralinda, the deputy government spokesperson, said the DRC escalation of the diplomatic relations was not unpredictable, given the previous false allegations that Rwanda supports the M23.
