Rwanda launches Gender Data Lab to drive progress in Gender Equality

Rwanda has taken a monumental step towards advancing gender equality with the official inauguration of the Gender Data Lab (GDL).

Developed collaboratively by the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR), PARIS21, and the Gender Monitoring Office (GMO), the GDL signifies a groundbreaking initiative aimed at revolutionizing gender data collection, analysis, and utilization.

The launch event, held at the premises of the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda, united a diverse range of stakeholders, including government officials, experts, civil society representatives, and international partners. Attendees seized the opportunity to witness the birth of the Gender Data Lab and offer valuable insights into gender data requirements and priorities.

Chief Gender Monitor, Umutoni Gatsinzi Nadine, highlighted the transformative potential of the Gender Data Lab, stating,

The Gender Data Lab represents a crucial step forward in our efforts to bridge gender data gaps and create a more inclusive society.”

She emphasized the significance of leveraging innovative approaches to data collection and analysis to ensure that policies are evidence-based and responsive to the needs of all citizens.

The Gender Data Lab will concentrate on developing sustainable data products that consolidate existing gender data sources and employ advanced data science techniques to extract meaningful insights. By bridging the gap between data producers and users, the GDL promises to empower policymakers with the evidence necessary to drive gender-responsive policies and programs.
